Colorado Springs City Council Resolution Recognizes Northrop Grumman For Its Contributions to National Security and the Community

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 12, 2011) — The Colorado Springs City Council today adopted a resolution recognizing Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE:NOC) continuing contributions to national security and to the Colorado economy as a provider of leading-edge technology to military services operating here.

“Northrop Grumman has been a trusted supplier of military space systems, missile defense expertise and information technology services to military operations in the Colorado Springs area for more than 30 years through its workforce of more than 2,400 employees statewide,”  the resolution states.
   
Adopted as the 27th National Space Symposium is underway nearby at the Broadmoor Hotel, the resolution further notes the company’s leadership role in the annual conference and trade show attended by thousands of military and civil space leaders and luminaries.

“Colorado Springs’ prominence in the space industry is enhanced by being the headquarters for the Space Foundation and site of the preeminent space conference in the world,” the resolution continues. “Northrop Grumman consistently serves as a primary sponsor of the Space Symposium, where it is widely recognized as a leader in national security and civil space.”
     
For nearly two decades, the company has provided modeling and simulation, testing and war gaming support to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency’s Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) at Schriever Air Force Base to enhance Ballistic Missile Defense System mission integration.  Northrop Grumman, as prime contractor for the Space Tracking and Surveillance System demonstration satellites, manages command and control functions for the two Missile Defense Agency spacecraft from the MDIOC.

The company’s history of providing space capabilities further includes Defense Support Program missile warning satellites for Air Force operations in the area, as well as payloads for the Milstar and Advanced Extremely High Frequency communications systems; the Defense Satellite Communications System; the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program; and Space Based Infrared System; the Army Joint Tactical Ground Station, and the Space Weather Analysis and Forecast System, among many others.

“Our presence here increases at this time every year because of the conference, but we are full-time, year-round partners with the City of Colorado Springs, just as we are with the military organizations and government agencies in the area,” said Russ Anarde, the Northrop Grumman’s corporate lead executive for Colorado Springs, who accepted the resolution on behalf of the company.
