Space Technology Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations through October 31

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sep. 9, 2002) — The Space Technology Hall of Fame is accepting nominations now through Oct. 31, 2002. The Hall of Fame honors technologies and innovators who have transformed space-based technology into use for commercial products. This year’s selected technologies will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 19th National Space Symposium at the Space Technology Hall of Fame Dinner in Colorado Springs in April 2003. The Space Technology Hall of Fame, managed for NASA by the Space Foundation, enters its 15th year of recognizing significant spin-offs from space technology, increasing public awareness of the benefits of space technology, and encouraging further innovation. In 2002, the Space Technology Hall of Fame honored satellite radio. Nominations for the Space Technology Hall of Fame are solicited from NASA Centers, the Departments of Defense, Commerce and Transportation, and commercial aerospace and technology companies. Each organization may nominate up to three aerospace spin-off technologies. Re-nomination of previously nominated technologies is permitted. Nominations are due to the Space Foundation by Oct. 31, 2002. Information submitted for each nomination is reviewed for completeness and screened and assessed by technical experts. Candidate technologies are submitted to the panel of judges who rank them according to the Space Technology Hall of Fame selection criteria as follows: Economic Benefit (10 points); Public/Private/Partnership Investment (5 points); Public Awareness Factor (15 points); Societal Benefit Factor (15 points); and Longevity (5 points).
