Higginbotham, Walker to lead Space Foundation Board of Directors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.(Dec. 1, 2003) — The board of directors of the Space Foundation has elected John B. Higginbotham chairman of the board for a two-year term effective Jan. 21, 2004. The Honorable Robert S. Walker was elected vice chairman of the board. William B. `Bill` Tutt, who completes a two-year term as chairman after serving 20 years on the board, was elected to the honorary position of chairman emeritus. Higginbotham is founder and chairman of Reston, Virginia-based SpaceVest, the leading investment firm specializing in space enterprises and next-generation network technology. He has been on the board of directors of the Space Foundation since 1999 and has served as vice chairman of the board since January 2000. Previously, he was a co-founder, director, and senior vice president of International Technology Underwriters, Inc. (INTEC), and, prior to that, was product manager for Hewlett Packard Company’s global entry into the microcomputer industry. Higginbotham earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with Honors from Virginia Tech and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. Walker is chairman of Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates, and recently served by appointment of President George W. Bush as chairman of the Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry. He was the Bush advisor on science, space and technology during the 2000 presidential campaign, and served 20 years in Congress as U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania, chairing the House Science Committee and serving in numerous House Republican leadership positions. Walker earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Millersville University in Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Delaware, and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Franklin and Marshall College. He has served on the Space Foundation board since 1997. The Space Foundation board also re-elected the following directors to new, three-year terms effective Jan. 21, 2004:
