Space Shuttle Return to Flight under the microscope at Space at the Crossroads conference

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 6, 2004) — Top officials guiding NASA’s Space Shuttle `return to flight` effort will provide detailed briefings and answer questions from participants at Space at the Crossroads, Feb. 18, 2004, in Washington, D.C. Representatives of NASA, the Columbia Accident Investigation Board, and the Stafford-Covey Task Force will appear together in a featured panel discussion moderated by Brian Chase, vice president, Washington Operations, the Space Foundation.

Space at the Crossroads is a highly focused one-day conference presented by the Space Foundation and Space News in association with the U.S. Dept of Commerce, Satellite Industry Association, National Space Society, and Washington Space Business Roundtable. The event will be held at the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation and Naval Heritage Center in Washington, D.C.

NASA’s post-Columbia challenges will be addressed in the “Return to Flight – T Minus?” panel featuring Maj Gen John L. Barry, USAF (Retired), executive director, Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB); Col Richard O. Covey, USAF (Retired), co-chairman, Stafford-Covey Return to Flight Task Force & vice president, Support Operations, The Boeing Company; and CAPT William F. Readdy, USN (Retired), associate administrator, Office of Space Flight, National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA).

Senior government officials, leaders from throughout the military space community and industry executives will discuss other critical issues affecting national security, commercial and civil space activities at the conference.
