Additional leaders confirm National Space Symposium participation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Mar. 9, 2005) — Top leaders from Congress, the White House and NASA are the latest additions to the 21st National Space Symposium, scheduled for April 4-7, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The Honorable Ken Calvert, Dr. John Marburger III, and Col Fred Gregory, USAF (Retired), have confirmed as featured speakers at the symposium, according to Space Foundation officials. Calvert represents Southern California’s 44th District in the U.S. House of Representatives and was elected chairman of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee in the 109th Congress. He will address the symposium on Tuesday, April 5, at 8:30 am. As director of the Office of Science & Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President, Marburger has been at the forefront of several White House policies affecting the space community. He will speak on Thursday, April 7, at 2:00 pm. Gregory is serving as acting administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). A former astronaut, he has been deputy administrator at the agency, taking on acting administrator responsibilities last month. Gregory will speak during the Space Technology Hall of Fame Dinner, co-sponsored by Northrop Grumman, on April 7. This marks the first time that Calvert and Marburger have addressed the National Space Symposium. They join previously confirmed featured speakers Gen Lance Lord, USAF, commander, Air Force Space Command; Gen James Cartwright, USMC, commander, United States Strategic Command; ADM Thomas Keating, USN, commander, United States Northern Command and NORAD; and Lt Gen Brian Arnold, USAF, commander, Space and Missile Center. More than 6,500 registrants, guests, speakers, exhibitors and media members are expected to attend the 21st National Space Symposium.
