Space Foundation exhibits at Wirefly X PRIZE Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 18, 2006) — The Space Foundation announced today that it will host an exhibit at the Wirefly X Prize Cup 2006. The X Prize Cup takes place Oct. 20-21, 2006, at the Las Cruces International Airport. The Space Foundation’s exhibit, highlighting its many programs that integrate civil, commercial, and national security space activities and educational programs to inspire, enable, and propel the next generation, can be found in the Expo Tent at booths 102 and 103. “The Space Foundation is wholly supportive of commercial space enterprises,” said Space Foundation Senior Vice President for Strategic Partnerships Elizabeth Wagner. “Kids are excited that space travel and exploration and a return to the Moon are a real possibility for them; entrepreneurs such as those participating at the X Prize Cup will help make that future a reality.” Dr. Peter H. Diamandis, chairman and chief executive officer, Zero-Gravity Corporation, and chairman and chief executive officer, X PRIZE Foundation, accepted the Space Foundation’s 2005 Douglas S. Morrow Public Outreach Award for the X PRIZE Foundation at the 21st National Space Symposium. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to public awareness of, and support for, the exploration and development of space. Diamandis also was a featured speaker at the Space Foundation’s 22nd National Space Symposium in April 2006. More than 12,000 visitors are expected to attend, and more than 50 exhibitors will showcase a broad range of products and services featuring current and future developments in aerospace technology and education. This year’s Cup features three competitions with more than $2.5 million in prize purses, multiple high-powered sounding rocket launches, the unveiling of the Rocket Racing League’s development X-Racer, multiple static engine test firings live on the field, fly-overs by the T-38 astronaut trainer, and an open-air museum of space featuring scale models, simulators, space artifacts, live astronaut talks and more.
