Presented by the Space Foundation and Space News, Strategic Space and Defense, the global security conference for space and defense professionals, is set to take place at the Qwest Center Omaha Convention Center and Arena in Omaha, Neb., 6-8 October. The student program consists of a presentation covering space history, an introduction to careers in space, a tour of designated booths in the Strategic Space and Defense exhibit center featuring leading aerospace companies and organizations, and a space science workshop. Workshop topics include solar heating’s effect on atmospheric motion and the electromagnetic spectrum as seen through the telescope. The student program is co-sponsored by NASA Nebraska Space Grant.
Offered on a first come, first-served basis, the program is open to both public and private school teachers and their classes. For more information, interested teachers should contact the Foundation’s education department at 719.576.8000 or [email protected].
The Space Foundation’s education programs support teachers and PreK-12 students using space-based lessons and principles incorporated into standards-based curriculum to integrate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) into all content areas. The Space Discovery Institute, Teacher Liaison program, annual Space Career Fair, and free online lesson bank for educators are some of the education tools the Space Foundation offers to equip teachers and their students.
