Strategic Space Symposium Confirms Featured Speakers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 10, 2009) — An impressive slate of featured speakers has been confirmed for the Strategic Space Symposium, including: Gen. Kevin P. Chilton, USAF, commander, U.S. Strategic Command; Vice Adm. Carl V. Mauney, USN, deputy commander, United States Strategic Command; Lt. Gen. Kevin Campbell, USA, commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense; Lt. Gen. Larry James, USAF, commander Joint Functional Component Command for Space; Maj. Gen Susan Helms, USAF, director, Plans and Policy, United States Strategic Command. The Strategic Space Symposium will be 2 – 4 Nov., 2009, at the Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb.
Co-sponsored by the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and the Space Foundation, the event is themed Advancing Space Capabilities and Strengthening Operations to Promote Global Security and is expected to attract more than 1,500 government officials, military leaders, top industry executives, students, educators, and exhibitors from around the world. The first wave of confirmed speakers is military, but the agenda will also include commercial space and space policy speakers.
The Strategic Space Symposium offers space and defense professionals an unparalleled opportunity for education, interactive discussion, and exposure to the latest space operations technologies related to global space strategy and warfighter issues and requirements. It features two full days of interactive training sessions, speeches, panel discussions, networking opportunities, exhibits, and concurrent educational programs for teachers and students.
In addition to general sessions, the agenda includes track and breakout sessions led by top-level military leaders, which will explore a variety of topics including space situational awareness, defense of space, protection of assets, current and future space policy, warfighting needs, capability gaps in space technologies, and emerging capabilities, and will give attendees ample opportunity to participate in open discussion and formulation of recommendations.
