Written by: developer
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 9, 2009) — When discussing space policy and how it supports combatant operations, a critical voice is that of the troops receiving the support. Strategic Space Symposium attendees will hear from on-the-ground warfighters in the Nov. 4 Enlisted/Officer Space Operator Perspective panel, which will provide insight into what is happening in the theater, what is needed, and what space professionals can do to help.
Led by Brig. Gen. Michael J. Carey, USAF, deputy director, Global Operations, Global Operations Directorate, United States Strategic Command, the panel will comprise officers and senior enlisted members of the services, including:
- Col. John “J.R.” Riordan, USAF, director of space operations, deputy chief of staff for operations, plans and requirements, Headquarters, United States Air Force
- Col. William J. Spendley, Jr., USAF, deputy director, Unmanned Aircraft and Weather Divisions, Air Force Special Ops Command
- First Sergeant Dustin P. Swinney, USA, company first sergeant, 1st Space Brigade
Presented through a Space Foundation/United States Strategic Command partnership and themed Advancing Space Capabilities and Strengthening Operations to Promote Global Security, the Strategic Space Symposium will be held Nov. 2-4 at the Qwest Center Omaha, in Omaha, Neb. The panelists join an impressive group of featured speakers, panelists, and track session/breakout leaders from the military, Department of Defense, U.S. and allied government, industry, and academia, who will discuss space situational awareness, defense of space, and protection of assets; current space policy and shaping future policies; warfighting needs; and capability gaps in space technologies.
