COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 29, 2006) — The Space Foundation has chosen `Toward a New Reality` as the theme for its 23rd National Space Symposium, scheduled for April 9-12, 2007, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The Space Foundation today also announced `Luna` by Joe Vinton as the official artwork for the 23rd National Space Symposium. `It is a great honor to have my work associated with such a prestigious event,` said Vinton, who resides in Burton on Trent, England. “The reality of space in our lives is dynamic,” said Space Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Elliot G. Pulham. “We are moving ‘Toward a New Reality’ of broader use and exploration of space from new global players, companies, policies, relationships, technologies and systems. All sectors of space – civil, commercial and national security space – are affected, and our symposium uniquely addresses each sector.” The National Space Symposium is the premier annual space industry conference. The event draws the most senior executive leadership from NASA and other space and government agencies, the commercial space and satellite broadcasting industry, research universities and academia, space tourism concerns, the Department of Defense, military space commands and the global space industry. Featured speakers and panels during the four day event cover a broad spectrum of issues relevant to all aspects of the global space industry. More than 7,000 registrants, guests, speakers, exhibitors, and media are expected to attend the 23rd National Space Symposium. Highlights of the 23rd National Space Symposium also will include an extensive exhibit hall showcasing more than 135 companies and organizations; a spectacular opening ceremony, reception, and fireworks; the presentation of the Space Foundation’s highest honor, the General James E. Hill Lifetime Space Achievement Award; and the annual induction ceremony of the Space Technology Hall of Fame, recognizing outstanding down-to-Earth applications of technology developed for the space program. In keeping with its mission to inspire, enable, and propel the leaders of tomorrow, the Space Foundation conducts many education endeavors in conjunction with the National Space Symposium. The Space Foundation’s fourth flight of Teacher Liaisons will be recognized and begin their year of working with the Foundation to promote excellence in space science education. More than 500 elementary, middle, and high school students will receive special tours of the Ball Aerospace Exhibit Center, and several hundred college students are expected to participate at the annual Space Career Fair.
