Featured Speaker: Troy Meink

Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink said the United States is at a key point for space and defense. He said today’s forces are ready for current missions. However, future success depends on delivering new capabilities much faster. He stressed the need to cut red tape and adopt new technology.

Meink focused much of his talk on improving the acquisition process. He called for faster decisions and fewer approval steps. He also wants to give program leaders more authority. His goal is to deliver new systems more quickly while keeping pace with changing threats.

He also discussed the importance of people. Meink said recruiting and keeping skilled workers is critical. He encouraged more investment in STEM education to build the next generation of engineers and scientists. He also invited experienced professionals to support the Department’s modernization efforts.

Meink pointed to reusable launch systems, satellite networks, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing as key technologies for the future. He said future systems must cost less, be built faster, and be easier to upgrade.

During the Q&A session, Meink said lasting change will require new policies, better teamwork with industry, and more stable funding. He said these steps will help speed production and strengthen the nation’s space capabilities.
