A Million Reasons to be Thankful

Written by: developer

Popular music group Mannheim Steamroller, best known for modern contemporary interpretations of Yuletide favorites, donated one million holiday music CDs to our armed forces and their families, military bases and community organizations, hospitals, and other support facilities as a way of showing gratitude for their efforts and sacrifices. According to Mannheim Steamroller founder, “Chip” Davis, the project theme, “A Million Reasons To Be Thankful”,  honors the contributions troops make on behalf of their country. Distribution began in October at Strategic Space and Defense 2008, the Space Foundation’s conference for space and defense professionals in Omaha, Neb. In early December, Davis was presented with the Office of the Secretary of Defense Public Service Award in honor of his past efforts for the military and in recognition of his “A Million Reasons To Be Thankful” campaign.

Mannheim Steamroller and the Space Foundation have a long-term partnership to raise awareness of the benefits and importance of space programs. This partnership includes a concert tour called Music of the Spheres and an accompanying CD of the same name, all focused on the wonder of space travel. The complete musical program, designed to celebrate America’s passion for space exploration is anticipated in late 2009.
