Take a Steampunk Space-cation to the Future at the Discovery Center Aug. 1

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 28, 2015) – The Space Foundation Discovery Center Summer of Discovery programming is almost over, but it is not going out without a bang. The TESLA Steampunk group will be onsite with fun, activities and steampunk attire. Astronaut Foods® will also be at the Discovery Center from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. helping guests decide which Astronaut Ice Cream flavor is their favorite, while supplies last. Heatsheets® space blankets will also be available to the early arriving guests, quantities are limited.

The theme for the day, Journey to the Future, will test the ingenuity of guests as they contemplate what the world will be like in the future. Guests will create a city of the future, to be displayed in the Discovery Center, innovate with circuit blocks and invent a new game to be played in the future. Colorado Technical University (CTU) will also be conducting robotics demonstrations from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. There will be interactive, educational fun for all ages throughout the day, included in the price of Discovery Center admission.

Additional fee activities on Aug. 1 include:

  • Create a Time Capsule

11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

($5 additional fee, appropriate for ages)

  • Minecraft® in the AGI Space Missions Simulation Laboratory

Session 1: 11:00 a.m. – noon

Session 2: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

($5 additional fee, seating limits apply, appropriate for ages 8 and up)

  • Drive a Robotic Mars Rover

Sessions on the hour, starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.

($5 additional fee, appropriate for ages 5 and up with adult participation)

The “Great Balls of Fire” traveling exhibit will also be leaving the Discovery Center Sept. 12, so now is a great time to check it out. This spectacular exhibit details the origins and study of asteroids, comets and meteors, and examines potential threats to our planet. This exhibit is also included in the price of admission.
