Space Foundation’s Space Discovery Institute in Full Orbit

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jul. 18, 2008) — The Space Discovery Institute is going strong. Teachers from across the country have gathered in Colorado Springs to gain hands on lessons in space science to take back to their classrooms. Starting July 7, during “Astronomy Principles for the Classroom: Kinesthetic Astronomy”, educators studied the motions of the heavens, astronomical research tools, stars and constellations, 3D exploration of comets, auroras, and planets. Astronomy lessons were topped off with a spectacular night of stargazing. Starting July 14, educators delved into the intricacies of “Space Technologies in the Classroom: Imagery and High-Tech Science”, exploring the integration of numerous space technologies for student curriculum. Special areas of interest included space transportation and design, robotics, communications, space power and space structure.

 The Space Discovery Institute is comprised of five week-long, intensive, graduate-level, in-resident courses in Colorado Springs, Colo. These courses provide educators with skills and techniques to capture the imagination and interest of their students using space to inspire, enable, and propel them to study the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.
