The Honorable Peter B. Teets Confirmed for National Space Symposium

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 8, 2002) — The Space Foundation announced today that the Honorable Peter B. Teets, Under Secretary of the Air Force and director, National Reconnaissance Office, has confirmed as a keynote speaker for the 18th National Space Symposium, scheduled April 8-11 in Colorado Springs. Teets is responsible for all actions of the Air Force on behalf of the secretary of the Air Force. He oversees the recruiting, training, and equipping of more than 710,000 people, and a budget of approximately $68 billion. As National Reconnaissance Office Director, he is responsible for the acquisition and operation of all United States space-based reconnaissance and intelligence systems, including management of the National Reconnaissance Program. He assumed his current position in December 2001. Teets was formerly president and chief operating officer of Lockheed Martin Corporation. He earned both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in applied mathematics from the University of Colorado, Boulder; and a Master of Science degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass.
