Nominations Sought for Space Technology Hall of Fame

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.(Jul. 19, 2004) — The Space Foundation has received a number of excellent nominations for `down to Earth` technologies to be considered for induction into the Space Technology Hall of Fame. Organizations and individuals are encouraged to submit nominations prior to the official close of the nomination period on Aug. 16, 2004, to allow for the rigorous due diligence process that leads to the selection of the 2005 class of Hall of Fame technologies. Technologies and innovators selected for induction into the Hall of Fame will be recognized during special awards ceremonies at the highly anticipated 21st National Space Symposium, scheduled April 4-7, 2005. The Space Technology Hall of Fame, managed by the Space Foundation in partnership with NASA, enters its 17th year of honoring the innovators who transform space-based technology into commercial products and services that improve life on Earth. Four technologies were inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 2004: LADARVision 4000, MedStar Monitoring System, Multi-Junction (MJ) Space Solar Cells and Precision Global Positioning System (GPS) Software System. Representatives from six key innovating organizations as well as 38 innovating individuals were honored at a private induction ceremony and a special awards dinner during the 20th National Space Symposium. Individuals and organizations may nominate up to three technologies. This may include the re-nomination of previously submitted technologies. Supporting information for each nomination submitted will be reviewed for completeness, assessed by technical experts and ranked by a prestigious panel of judges according to the following criteria:

• Economic Benefit (10 points)
• Public/Private/Partnership Investment (5 points)
• Public Awareness Factor (15 points)
• Societal Benefit Factor (15 points)
• Longevity (5 points)

Technologies selected for induction in 2005 will be announced next February. Inductees will be honored at the 17th Annual Space Technology Hall of Fame Dinner on April 7 at the 21st National Space Symposium, which takes place April 4-7 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Space Foundation is a national non-profit organization, which vigorously advances civil, commercial, and national security space endeavors and educational excellence.
