Space Foundation accepting applications for Teacher Liaison program

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 20, 2006) — The Space Foundation is accepting applications for its prestigious Teacher Liaison program. Applications are due to the Space Foundation by Feb. 24, 2006. Space Foundation Teacher Liaisons serve as an active link between the Space Foundation, NASA, and their school and school district. All kindergarten through 12th grade educators, or other professionals or informal educators who have a desire to integrate space education into their classrooms are eligible to apply. The Space Foundation created the Teacher Liaison program in 2004. Teacher Liaisons have the opportunity to shape and influence space and science education at a national level. Teacher Liaisons receive specialized training and instruction at Space Foundation and NASA workshops with optional graduate-level credit; exclusive science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professional development experiences with optional continuing education credit; and attend special space-oriented student programs created just for Teacher Liaisons and their classes. Teacher Liaisons are recognized during the 22nd National Space Symposium, the premier annual space industry conference anywhere in the world. They receive free registration to the symposium, held April 3-6, 2006, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Teacher Liaisons and their classes also gain free admission to the Lockheed Martin Exhibit Center, showcasing the latest in space technology and applications, at the National Space Symposium. Selected teachers will be notified in March. In addition to the Teacher Liaison program, the Space Foundation fosters educational space endeavors by managing the on-site NASA Educational Resource Center; offering two distinct Master’s in Space Studies Degrees in conjunction with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Regis University; providing the Lucy Enos Memorial Scholarship for Teachers; training teachers through Summer Institute graduate courses and national conferences; implementing the revolutionary Integrated Science Literacy Model; annually conducting the Space Career Fair; and offering a free online lesson bank for educators.
