Space Foundation Moves to New Headquarters

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jul. 15, 2011) — After a decade at its former home base near Old Colorado City, the Space Foundation has relocated to new headquarters at 4425 Arrowswest Drive in the Garden of the Gods high-tech corridor, Colorado Springs.

The new Space Foundation headquarters is a 45,715 square foot office condominium, and part of a 171,500 square foot office and warehouse/light manufacturing building at the corner of Arrowswest Drive and Garden of the Gods Road.

“The Space Foundation is delighted with the tremendous community support that has made this transformational move possible,” said Chief Executive Officer Elliot Pulham. “On behalf of our board and our team, I’d like to thank the Colorado Springs Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC), El Pomar Foundation, the Anna Keesling Ackerman Fund, the State of Colorado, the E.L. and Thelma Gaylord Foundation and the Anschutz Foundation for making this possible.”

The new Space Foundation headquarters provides office space to support continued, long-term growth. Future plans include additional education facilities to benefit teachers and students and a new conference center that will serve the local nonprofit community and accommodate meetings with leaders of the global space community

In recognizing the tremendous community support, the Space Foundation has committed to keeping its headquarters in Colorado Springs, and holding its annual National Space Symposium in El Paso County, through at least 2026.

The Space Foundation has held the National Space Symposium at The Broadmoor Hotel for the past 27 years. The premier gathering of space professionals in the world, the National Space Symposium has an estimated local economic impact of more than $25 million per year, as well as bringing the region to the attention of industry, government and military leaders and media from around the world.

The EDC took the lead in the community effort to keep the Space Foundation in Colorado Springs by helping to identify appropriate property, brokering the real estate transaction and facilitating community and state collaboration and support.

The Space Foundation was incorporated in Washington, D.C., in 1983, but has always had its principal office in Colorado Springs. In 1998, the nonprofit advocacy group further strengthened its ties to Colorado Springs by reincorporating in Colorado.

The Space Foundation’s education enterprise is also based in Colorado Springs. The Space Foundation Discovery Institute, which serves as the education headquarters and houses classrooms, laboratories and an educator resource center, is located on the campus of the Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy in Colorado Springs School District 11.

The Space Foundation also operates an office in Washington, D.C., and field offices in Houston, Tex., and Cape Canaveral, Fla.
