Successful 24th ISU SSP in Cooperation with TU Graz Leads to Official MOU

GRAZ, Austria (Sept. 16, 2011) – After the success in partnering with Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), ISU is pleased to announce the signing of an official Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

After years of collaboration, ISU and TU Graz are now officially strengthening their academic forces to develop common research in the field of small satellites and particular in the field of ground station operations. Indeed, both universities are now fully equipped in a similar way to provide up and downlink capacity. In order to facilitate this, access will be provided in future to signals and data from small satellites, which are being launched by TU Graz.

Prof. Walter Peeters, newly appointed ISU President is really pleased of these new developments: “The SSP in Graz let us to a much better understanding of the enormous research potential of TU Graz in many space related fields, but in particular in the field of space applications and telecommunications. We have seized the opportunity to strengthen our relationship by proposing a modus of further mutual research and possible exchange of student credits, which undoubtedly will lead to a long and fruitful cooperation between both universities.”

This MOU will also enable a mutual recognition of student credits for exchange of students, and facilitate the transfer of students both from ISU and TU Graz.

Both universities have the chance to count amongst their academic teams’ highly qualified professors and lecturers. The new partnership will also facilitate the exchange of their competences.

Prof. Otto Koudelka, Head of the Institute of Communications Networks and Satellite Communications at Graz University of Technology says “Hosting the Space Studies Program of ISU this year has been a great honour for TU Graz and a very rewarding task, both professionally and personally. This memorandum of understanding is a step further in extending the excellent cooperation between the two institutions. We plan to carry out joint activities in the area of small satellites and satellite communications using our ground station infrastructure. “
