ISU will Host the First “Galaxy Forum Europe 2013” on April 5, 2013

STRASBOURG, France (March 19, 2013) – The International Space University (ISU) and The International Lunar Observatory Association (ILOA) organize the first “Galaxy Forum Europe 2013”. This free, one-day, program exclusively for teachers and journalists will be devoted to Galaxy Astronomy and 21st Century Education in Europe. This event will be hosted by the International Space University (ISU), Strasbourg, on April 5, 2013. We are delighted to announce that our special guest will be astronaut and veteran of three NASA Space Shuttle missions, Jean-François Clervoy.

The Galaxy Forum Europe 2013 aims to keep abreast of the most up-to-date developments in Science, Technology, Space or Astronomy. Furthermore participants will have the possibility to develop relations and collaborations with other European teachers and professional scientists.

• “Dark Matter in Galaxies” by Dr. Benoit Famaey, Strasbourg Observatory 

11:30-13:00 – “Galaxy Forum Europe 2013” Core Workshops:

• “The Radio Universe” by Professor Joachim Koppen, Strasbourg Observatory and ISU 
• “Experimental Microgravity” by Associate Professor Hugh Hill, ISU 

13:00-14:00 – Lunch (sponsored by ILOA)

14:00-16:30 – “Galaxy Forum Europe 2013” Core Presentations:

• “Visit an actual space capsule: the Excaliber Almaz spacecraft at ISU” by ISU Faculty

The International Space University (ISU), founded in 1987 in Massachusetts, US and now headquartered in Strasbourg, France, is the world’s premier international space education institution. It is supported by major space agencies and aerospace organizations from around the world. The graduate level programs offered by ISU are dedicated to promoting international, interdisciplinary and intercultural cooperation in space activities. With this objective, ILOA has been building a global series of workshops known as “Galaxy Forums”. These free events bring world-renowned astronomers and space professionals to educators and the general public. Interactive panel discussions always follow and efforts are made to integrate local perspectives and traditional knowledge. Galaxy Forums have been held in the USA (Hawaii, Kansas, New York, Silicon Valley), as well as Canada, China, India, Japan and Africa.
