COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — March 20, 2023 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Commerce Institute and The Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation successfully executed LEVL5: SPACE DOCK at NSU™ Space Medicine Roundtable and Ideate and Incubate cohorts.

Hosted at the Levan Center of Innovation, the first two entrepreneurial cohorts will assist entrepreneurs in understanding the opportunities available to them in the emerging space ecosystem and developing business strategies to better position their product or service in the global space supply chain. Taught by industry experts and leveraging local resources, programming creates a collaborative environment for companies across diverse industries and backgrounds to engage with one another to expand and sustain the future of space.

Kelli Kedis Ogborn, Space Foundation vice president of space commerce and entrepreneurship, remarked, “The excitement and engagement around our LEVL5: SPACE DOCK at NSU programming has exceeded expectations. South Florida is interested, they are engaged and they are ready to not only bring space to the region but also to make a name for themselves within the ecosystem.”

“The evolving space sector provides new opportunities for entrepreneurs as the historical barriers to entry are being reduced. There has never been a better time in history for entrepreneurs to provide products and services in collaboration with the public and private environments. Planting the space flag in South Florida is a major milestone for the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation and Nova Southeastern University as we successfully launch LEVL5: SPACE DOCK at NSU in partnership with Space Foundation. This coinvested strategic partnership will change the nature of how entrepreneurs build and scale companies in South Florida with local, regional, national and international impact,” said John Wensveen, Ph.D., Chief Innovation Officer at Nova Southeastern University and Executive Director of the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation.

With the help of medical experts and community leaders, the Space Medicine Roundtable explored the needs, focus areas, technical challenges, and possible solutions necessary to grow and sustain medical resources for the future of space exploration. Topics included challenges for humans in long-duration space flight; how to anticipate medical needs in harsh and uncharted environments; industries involved in advancing space medicine; and how community members can get involved to think creatively for new applications and opportunities in the field.
