Space Commerce Institute to Host Monthly Entrepreneurship Workshops for World Space Week 2023

Written by: Space Foundation Editorial Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — June 15, 2023 —  Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Commerce Institute is partnering with the World Space Week Association to host a series of free monthly space entrepreneur workshops leading up to World Space Week 2023, Oct. 4-10.

In 1999, the U.N. General Assembly declared Oct. 4-10 as World Space Week. Since then, it has grown to be the largest space event on Earth, according to the Association. Events are held that week each year by space agencies, the industry, the U.N., schools, and thousands of organizations. World Space Week 2022 produced a record-breaking number of 11,221 reported events in 87 countries.

For this year’s event, the theme “Space Entrepreneurship” has been chosen to inspire the upcoming generation to explore not only the realms of space technology but also the business aspects, as they consider potential careers in the global space ecosystem. Through these engaging space entrepreneur workshops, Space Commerce Institute aims to cultivate entrepreneurship on a global scale and equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of the space industry.

Kelli Kedis Ogborn, Space Foundation vice president of space commerce and entrepreneurship remarked, “The future of space will be shaped by creativity, imagination, and a diverse set of backgrounds and skill sets. Our mission is to illuminate the vast expanse of opportunities within the realm of space, empowering entrepreneurs worldwide to refine their skills and seize these prospects, enabling them to seamlessly integrate into the global space supply chain.”

“These workshops not only symbolize a ground for creativity in the space sector but also offer a fantastic opportunity for emerging entrepreneurs to explore the boundless potential that space holds,” said World Space Week Association Director Maruska Strah. “Through these workshops, we look forward to setting the stage for transformative breakthroughs in the field of space entrepreneurship and further enriching the global space community.”
