Space Foundation Chief Executive Officer Elliot Holokauahi Pulham was awarded the U.S. Air Force Distinguished Public Service Award by Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley and U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff General Norton A. Schwartz April 29 at special ceremonies during an Air Force Civic Leaders meeting at Bolling Air Force Base, in Washington, D.C.

From 2006-2009, Pulham was a member of the Air Force Civic Leaders, a hand-picked group of community leaders from across the United States who serve a sounding board for the USAF Chief of Staff and provide feedback to the Air Force on USAF strategic direction, mission, and community relations. A recognized expert on global space issues, Pulham served as the Air Force Space Command (AFSPACE) representative.

According to the citation presented by the Department of the Air Force, "Pulham distinguished himself by service as an Air Force advocate. . . with both an intimate knowledge of Air Force operations and a deep grasp of social and economic issues . . . he expertly advised the Secretary, Chief of Staff and senior Air Force leaders on these matters while serving as an Air Force Civic Leader.”

Among the contributions for which Pulham was recognized were dissemination of information about the Air Force's missions, roles, requirements, and major programs to the public and individual advice concerning the development of programs and methods to attain maximum understanding and cooperation between affected civilian communities and the Air Force.
