August 25 Festival of Science Slated for Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 5, 2011) — The Space Foundation’s local Festival of Science has been such a tremendous success that a second festival has been added this year to coincide with the Aug. 25 open house at the Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy, 4220 East Pikes Peak Avenue, in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Festival, which will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Academy’s gymnasium, is free and open to the public.

Targeted at the middle-school-level, the Festival of Science brings students and their families, teachers and community members together with local science-oriented organizations offering hands-on activities.

About the Space Foundation Connection with Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy
The Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy is a public middle school created in 2009 through a partnership between the Space Foundation and Colorado Springs School District 11. It is named in honor of Colorado native and astronaut John L. “Jack” Swigert. The Academy uses space themes and principles to teach a broad range of subjects, with focus on improving students’ proficiency in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM). The Space Foundation Discovery Institute is located on the campus of the Swigert Academy and is the home base for Space Foundation education programs, housing classrooms, a Mars Yard, an Educator Resource Center and the AGI Space Missions Simulator.
